Auto Climate Control Vents

I have an 05 Silverado with the dual zone automatic climate control.

This morning on the way to work I noticed that my vents are always stuck on the Head. the digital indicator will switch to feet or defrost or both but the air only comes out the vents directed to your head. the blower speed works fine and AC and temperature work fine. The dual zone works fine. I also can't hear any of the actuators in the dash moving like it used to when I would manually switch the venting.

I have checked fuses and disconnected my battery and tried it again. nothing worked.

Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. Is my dash controls gone? Is there a way to recalibrate it?

I tried the tips in the thread you posted but now the vents are still stuck and all I get is full heat out of the face vents. Any ideas on what I did to screw that up? Or how to correct it. I love my auto climate control but now I wish I had the regular hvac haha.

Not sure, it might be time to find a shop/dealer to assist in repairs. I only know from what I've read but have no pratical experience. Sorry.

No problem, thanks for the input and help.

Driving to work this morning the heat glitch fixed itself and I was back to having fan and temp control but still no vent direction control.

This makes me think that my actuator that controls my vents my be the cause. where is that actuator? is it a big job?

I think your right 06SierraZ71, A dealer may be my fix.

The manual HVAC systems use those pesky electric actuators as well.......I wish I still had cables controlling those doors, never had a problem with those.

Cables? What are those???? lol

I have only had one problem with cables...the handle broke off in my old '76 Chevy pick up. It only has the options of defrost or floor vent option (no AC). So used a screwdriver and would put in Defrost for winter and Floor for the summer. This also is the era of the side vents you could open to bring in fresh air from inside your fenders and the "smokers" window.

My rear air gate servo quit on my 05 Denali and have yet to go to the dealer ship to price the part. if it is priced near the current model one i'll pass as it is stuck in full ac no temp control and i live in Florida.

So I had a few hours of free time today and found the vent control actuator, removed it and plugged it back into the wiring harness. As I cycled the modes it wasn't moving so i figured I need a new actuator. I pulled it apart for the fun or it and found a burnt up circuit board on the inside. So i guess that was the problem,

Now I have to find the part and price it out. For now I can reach up in the dash and manually change my vents directions, pretty red neck haha.

If anyone else has this problem with your HVAC vent controls it's the actuator above your gas pedal. not too bad to get out but small hands come in handy.

That 76' chev would be a beauty. Things were a lot less complicated and a lot easier to work on.

She will be one day, but right now she's a pile of memories, dreams and a whole lot of rust.

Picked up a new actuator at the local GM dealer today and put it in tonight. Took a little while and some skinned knuckles but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be from what I read. The hard part is to keep the cam lined up and in the correct position so the actuator will move to the desired vent setting.

Anyways, you don't have to take the dash apart. I only removed the panel below the steering wheel. Hope this helps someone in my same position
